Brainwashed by Starbucks

I've been an acting member of the Starbucks club for a long time. So long - that I was at Deville Cafe in Calgary the other day and when I got up to the counter I wasn't even sure how to order a coffee. I've been saying 'Grande Dark in a Venti Cup' for so long the fundamentals of ordering a normal cup of coffee escaped me. I eventually blurted out. 'Coffee' and she helped me through the rest and pointed to the cream and sugar station like I was on a day pass.
After fumbling through ordering a coffee, I did notice that I was much more aware of my surroundings. I actually found I was looking around. Imagine that.
As much as I love the consistency and predicability of Starbucks, (no matter where you are or what Country you're in) I think we shut down and go on auto pilot as soon as we walk in the door. Surprising to think that Starbucks everywhere are filled with creative types, yet I would think this predictability must be limiting creativity in some way.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not turning my back on Starbucks. This only opened my eyes as to how a slight shift in your routine can be a really good thing. I'll be looking to add some more independent corner shop cafes to the rotation.
Anyone else out there a Starbucks zombie?
