Keep it real. Really Real.

We're pretty lucky to have the working environment we have at FLIPP. A warehouse space with graffiti covered walls, an Astroids arcade game surrounded by desks and computers, a democratic music system, fusball table, video games center and full beer fridge. All of this you can see and read about on our website, but what isn't listed on the site is a FLIPP Friday tradition called the 'Chore Lottery'.

Every Friday at around 4PM we divy up the following:

  1. Mop the Floors
  2. Collect the Garbages
  3. Dusting
  4. Clean the Kitchen
  5. Vacuuming
  6. Clean the Washroom

When we first started there were 5 of us so we literally pulled names from a hat. Names scribbled on little pieces of paper made Greg Bruce's head explode so he put together a little script that randomly matched names to the chores and the 'Chore Lottery' was born.

We've grown from 5 to 9 (so there are a couple of free passes) but the Chore Lottery remains and actually helps mark the start of a weekend. Strangely enough you don't hear any of us complaining when our name matches up with 'Moping the Floors' or 'Cleaning the Bathroom' and it's actually a great way of pulling us away from our computers, into conversation and back into the real world. And lets face it, sometimes the clients you're dealing with make cleaning the toilet a nice break. (Not me of course my clients are perfect)

We know we're lucky to love what we do for a living so cleaning the toilet once and awhile is a small price to pay. The beer fridge defiantly helps but overall it's pretty cool to see everyone pull together at the end of the week clean the place up.

What's it like at your office? Would you be ok with scrubbing the toilet?
